EUIPO Guidelines with Answers to Fifteen Most Frequently Asked Questions on Copyright Published

Let us inform you that the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights at EUIPO published answers to fifteen most frequently asked questions related to the field of copyright and related rights, available individually for each EU Member State.

Although a significant part of issues on copyright and related rights is regulated by provisions on the level of the European Union and the provisions of Member States in this part are harmonised with the requirements of European regulations, there are questions not covered by harmonisation process and every Member State independently provided for its own regulations. Every EU Member State has its own copyright law and policy developing in this field, and with answers to most frequently asked questions these Guidelines provide customers with a possibility to simply and quickly find out about legal solutions and positions in a Member State of their interest.

These Guidelines start from basic questions on copyright protection, giving answers to questions such as: what is copyright and what are related rights, what is copyright infringement and under which conditions can a work protected by copyright created by another be used, all to the most current issues in this field related to various forms of using copyright online, especially on social networks, and possible copyright infringements with such usage.

The Guidelines are prepared by national copyright experts from the 28 EU Member States, and answers are available in an official language of the country and in English.
