A Visit of the Delegation of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal to the Office and the Seminar on Procedures of the Boards of Appeal


On 9 March 2017, a three-member delegation of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal led by Mr. Théophile Margellos, the President of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, paid a working visit to the State Intellectual Property Office within the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) project.

A bilateral meeting between Mr. Margellos and Ms. Ljiljana Kuterovac, Director General of the Office, was held within the visit, a meeting between the delegation of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal and the delegation of the Boards of Appeal in the field of industrial property rights in the Republic of Croatia, led by Mr. Andrej Matijević, the President of the Boards of Appeal, and the seminar on the topic titled “Procedure before the Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office”. The seminar was intended for experts in the field of trademark and industrial design rights, mostly members of the national Boards of Appeal, authorised trademark representatives and the officials of the Office conducting first instance procedures in the field of trademark and industrial design rights, all to get better acquainted with procedures applied by the EUIPO Boards of Appeal. In addition to Mr. Margellos, there were also Mr. Gordon Humphreys, Chairperson of the 5th Board within the EUIPO Boards of Appeal and Mr. Sven Stürmann, Team Leader of the Knowledge and Legal Support Team at the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, who lectured on the seminar as professional speakers; examples of practical cases were used to discuss and elaborate on some of the most current and the most interesting legal issues.
