National Strategy of Intellectual Property

Revised National Strategy for the Development of Intellectual Property System of the Republic of Croatia, for the period from 2010 to 2012

The Government of the Republic of Croatia, at its 49th session of 1 April 2010, adopted the revised National strategy for the development of intellectual property system of the Republic of Croatia for the period from 2010 to 2012, with corresponding Action plan.

The first National strategy for the period from 2005 to 2010 was successfully implemented by the end of 2009, and regarding achieved results and taking into account eventually changed circumstances, it was revised for a next three-year period.

By implementation of the revised National strategy, is to ensure level of protection for intellectual property rights equal to that existing in the EU and harmonization with all the international agreements concluded by the Republic of Croatia in that field, as well as to secure an optimum for an advanced appliance of intellectual property, as a lever of economic growth and an as an actuator  for the scientific, cultural and overall social development, identical to the conditions in the leading EU Member States.

 

National strategy for the development of intellectual property system of the Republic of Croatia 2005-2010

The Government of the Republic of Croatia, at its session of 13 October 2005, adopted the National strategy for the development of intellectual property system of the Republic of Croatia 2005-2010, proposed and coordinated by the State intellectual property office.

Having adopted the National strategy for the development of intellectual property system, essential conditions have been imposed for providing a level of protection of intellectual property rights similar to that existing  in the European Community, and for permanently maintenance and harmonize that level of protection in accordance with all the international obligations and agreements concluded by the Republic of Croatia in this field. The Strategy should also provide the improvement of the use of intellectual property as a power tool for economic growth and an actuator of scientific, cultural and overall social progress. One of the main tasks provided by the Strategy is public information and raising of the level of public awareness about the importance of intellectual property and social benefits provided by an organised system of protection, implementation and application of intellectual property.

In implementation of this strategy other institutions involved in national intellectual property system besides State Intellectual Property Office are participating, primarily the bodies competent for the enforcement of intellectual property rights such as the State Inspectorate, the Customs Administration, Police and the Ministry of Justice, as well as state bodies and institutions competent for specific aspects of the economic, scientific-technological and cultural development.
