Call for evidence published by the European Commission on combating online piracy of live content
According to the 2023 European Commission work programme (hereinafter: the Commission), the Commission will adopt a Recommendation offering a toolbox to combat the illegal streaming of live events, in particular sports events.
This Call for Evidence aims to gather information and opinions from relevant stakeholders on this issue and to identify means in the European Union law to help broadcasters and live events organisers to combat and prevent online piracy (unauthorised retransmissions of broadcasts of live sports and other events).
It is necessary to identify effective solutions, in accordance with EU law, to promptly remove or block access to unauthorised retransmissions.
In the previous period, the European Audiovisual Observatory has produced the mapping report with an overview of the existing remedies against online piracy of sports content. The report was published in December 2021, which contains the information relevant for the Republic of Croatia as well, and it can be accessed here.
The Call for Evidence by the European Commission is open for feedback until
10 February 2023.
Interested stakeholders can contribute to the public consultation with their inputs in writing via the site of the European Commission accessible here, where a more detailed document about this initiative can be found in Croatian as well.
