WIPO awards presented at ARCA, the 18th International Exhibition of Innovations

At the closing ceremony of presenting awards to innovators for innovations presented at ARCA 2020, the 18th International Exhibition of Innovations, held at the National University Library in Zagreb on 17 October 2020, it was for the first time that awards of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) were presented.
Awards in two categories were presented:

  • A young innovator, Matija Hržić, in the category of young people, was awarded the “WIPO Schoolchildren's Trophy International Innovation Exhibition ARCA2020 Croatia 2020“, for the innovation of “Smart bee scale” 
  • Tehnix d.o.o., in the category of seniors, was awarded the “WIPO Medal for Inventors Zagreb 2020” for the innovation of “Mobile corona quarantine Tehnix 4/8”

Awards to the winners were presented by a representative of the State Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Croatia, Igor Bošnjaković.

WIPO presents awards to outstanding innovators and creators. The WIPO Awards aim to help foster a culture in which innovation and creativity are encouraged and appreciated at every level of society and to promote wider understanding of how the intellectual property system works to serve creativity and innovation.

WIPO Medal for Inventors
The WIPO Medal for Inventors was launched in 1979 to stimulate inventive and innovative activity around the world and to recognize the contribution of inventors to national wealth and development.
The WIPO Medal for Inventors is offered by national and international organizations to outstanding inventors. Particular attention is given to those who have made inventions which are significant contributions to the economic and technological development of their countries. Since 1979, some 2,000 medals have been bestowed upon inventors from over 130 countries.

WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy
The WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy is awarded to children in primary or secondary education who have achieved distinctive results in a field of school activity related to the intellectual property system, for outstanding success in the field of innovation and creativity. WIPO Awards have been given to schoolchildren for an invention, design, film-making and creative writing.
