WIPO Summer School for Intellectual Property in Croatia will be held in Rijeka from August 31 to September 11, 2026.

International Summer School for Intellectual Property of the World Intellectual Property Organization (Summer School) will be held in Rijeka, Croatia from August 31 to September 11, 2026. State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), in cooperation with WIPO, has been organizing Summer Schools in Croatia since 2008, and so far, cooperation has been established with the University of Dubrovnik on the implementation of seven Summer Schools, and two were held in cooperation with the University of Zagreb. 

This year, the tenth Summer School, is being held by WIPO and SIPO in cooperation with the University of Rijeka (UNIRI). 

The opening of the school on August 31, 2026, at the Trsat Campus, was attended by high-ranking representatives of the organizers of this year's Summer School. During the opening, SIPO Director General M.Sc. Ljiljana Kuterovac highlighted this year's Summer School as an ideal opportunity to bring the topic of intellectual property closer to a new international audience, especially at a time when intellectual property issues are becoming increasingly important for society and the economy.  WIPO representative Victor Owade, Head of Academic Institutions and Executive Programs of the WIPO Academy, highlighted the global role and importance of intellectual property. Vice-Rector for Studies, Students, Quality Assurance and Internationalization of the University of Rijeka, Prof. Dr. Irena Vodopija Krstanović, emphasized the international focus of the UNIRI and the importance of strengthening science and research excellence, but also the need to protect the results of research that are generated on UNIRI so that their potential can be further developed, applied and transferred to society and the economy. Assistant to the Rector for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property, Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda, invited the participants to active participation and open discussion, and emphasized the importance of readiness to learn and acquire new knowledge. 

In line with its international character, this year's Summer School brought together students and young professionals from Brazil, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Ukraine. 

During the two-week Summer School, experts and lecturers from WIPO, SIPO, the University of Rijeka, the University of Eastern Finland, the University of National and World Economy in Sofia and Texas A&M University - through lectures, discussions, case studies and practical exercises - will provide participants with a deeper insight into intellectual property as a key driver of economic, social, cultural and technological development. 
Participants will gain new knowledge about various aspects of intellectual property, from considering the protection and enforcement of different types of IP rights to its impact on the economy, health, climate change, environmental protection to new global challenges, especially in terms of intellectual property protection in relation to ubiquitous artificial intelligence.
