Every year on June 21st, World Music Day is celebrated by holding musical events around the world. Music accompanies us and connects us in all life situations and has invaluable social, cultural and economic value.

In the year of celebrating the 35th anniversary of SIPO, let us remind you of the role that music plays in everyday life and draw attention to the importance of authors and musicians - performers and their copyright and related rights that provide protection for original works of authorship and their performances and ensure that authors and musicians have the opportunity to continue their creative work.

The music industry is changing faster than ever. Tools that use artificial intelligence generate songs; digital platforms and social networks influence the creation of musical expressions and respect for copyright, and more and more young authors create without knowing their own and others' copyrights.

Today, it is possible for artificial intelligence to write a song, sing it in the voice of a famous artist and publish it on TikTok - all without a real person being involved at any time. The question arises as to what this means for copyright, for authors and performers, for all of us as an audience.

The challenges of using artificial intelligence and new technologies in music creation raise questions that point to the future of musical creation: How does music – as a powerful expression of creativity and emotion – function within the complex system of copyright, modern technology and the market? How to respect and protect copyright, and not stifle creativity? What is the role of copyright in the communication of musicians with the audience via the Internet and multimedia content? How to make a living from music?

You can find the answer to these questions in the recording of the panel “Intellectual Property and Music – Feel the Rhythm of Intellectual Property” held on April 24, 2025, which featured authors, musicians and producers: Matija Cvek, Baby Dooks- David Vurdelja, Lara Antić Prskalo and legal expert and expert in the field of copyright, professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb - Romana Matanovac Vučković.

The recording of the panel is available on the SIPO’s YouTube channel:
